Duintuin
Duintuin harmoniously blends architecture and landscape design. By carving into the terrain with clearly marked cuts we create varied zones, anchoring a lush garden, a lavish swimming pond and an adventurous dune scape, incorporating a secluded outdoor kitchen and a light-filled atelier. The composition of the spatial design doesn’t seem to be able to make up its mind if it is the result of architecture or landscape design, but echoes both the scale of the existing building that flawlessly blends with the nature of the surrounding landscape.

A unique experience
Duintuin is a design that embraces the surrounding landscapes of polders and dunes. By carving into the land, it creates space for various elements while considering the interplay of light and shade. Duintuin harmoniously blends architecture and landscape, creating a cohesive and engaging environment. The garden is divided into four zones: garden, forest, forest-dune, and dune. Each zone offers a unique experience, from tropical planting in the front garden to a forest-like atmosphere and adventurous dunes in the rear.
The existing house serves as the starting point for creating interventions in the landscape through carefully crafted cuts. A main path connects the interventions and visual axes, providing structure. A secondary path is hidden within the garden for adventure and maintenance. Lush planting infiltrates the garden from the sides, connecting the central landscape intervention with the surrounding areas
The natural swimming pond, is decorated with a wide diversity of water loving plant life and a helophyte filter, creating a serene swimming experience reflecting the greenery around it. The outdoor kitchen is tucked between the pavilion and the swimming pool, hidden beneath a dune. This secluded spot offers a delightful setting to enjoy outdoor activities during late summer evenings. At the far end of the garden lies the atelier. Its design harmonizes with the existing house, while offering new possibilities that the house cannot provide. Organized around a central courtyard, the studio allows ample natural light to enter, creating a sense of spaciousness and separating the space into niches with distinct functions.
