Podcast: De Werkende Woonwijk

The separation of residential and work areas has long resulted in traffic congestion, bleak industrial zones, and uninspired residential neighborhoods. To counter this, integrating living, working, and leisure spaces offers a powerful solution for creating vibrant and dynamic urban environments—an approach at the heart of FABRICations’ recent focus on the "Smart Urban Mix."

This concept promotes a harmonious blend of functions within the city, encouraging a sustainable and flexible urban design. In collaboration with Pakhuis de Zwijger, we explored this in greater depth through our podcast De Werkende Woonwijk (The Working Residential Area). This four-part series delves into how work and production spaces can be seamlessly integrated into residential areas, driving sustainable urban development.

Through discussions with experts and practitioners, we explore the crucial role of mixed-use neighborhoods. What factors should be considered when designing these spaces? Drawing on examples from both the Netherlands and abroad, we imagine how dynamic cities of the future could take shape.

Thanks to the support of the Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie, we were able to further expand and share these insights with a wider audience.
