Care Collective Breda

As housing design in the nineties was characterized by individualization, now slowly a new interest in collectivism is rising. Faith Popcorn, founder of marketing office Brain Reserve, states that time will be the most important factor in the organization of our social lives, and with the rise of Social-media and digital relation, real human interactions will be increasingly valuable.

The way time will be spent with others becomes the central issue of a new way of living. In response to this trend, FABRICations developed Care Collective, a new strategy for communal living and interactive, social architecture. The Care Collective ensemble blends into the surrounding urban fabric. The new constructions represent a private spot in a common ground. Collectivity is an important aspect of The Care Collective: people can enjoy a much wider network of facilities than they could if they were living on their own, while facilities such as gyms and swimming pools offer the opportunity to install social connections between inhabitants.

From an architectural point of view, the project balances the need for privacy of the without compromising access to light and nature. Each living module can flexibly accommodate frequent interactions with other users, or they can accommodate more private configurations.
